Microservice architecture on AWS

System of independent services

Microservices architecture allows applications to operate as a system of independent services. These services use a well-defined API interface for communication. Each of them usually encapsulates a single function. That isolation provides advantages to scale, deploy and update each service independently, without application disruption and downtime.

What we do: Design, architect, implement, and automate microservices, including but not limited to EKS. Automate build, test, and deployment according to DevOps best practices.

  • Microservices encourage an organization of small, independent groups to take ownership of their services.
  • Clear service interface agreements let teams act within a smaller context and be more productive.
  • The development life cycle for each service is shorter.
  • Cumulative effect gains a significant benefit for the organization throughout.

The independence of microservices allows scaling for each service to meet application demands. That makes it easier to set up the right-size infrastructure, control the cost of a solution, and manage availability during spikes using autoscaling. Microservices enable essential DevOps practices such as continuous integration and continuous delivery, making it easy to roll out new features and roll back if something went wrong. The development acceleration enables experimentation and reduces time-to-market for new features.

Microservices architectures can make solutions be tools and vendor agnostic. Teams have the freedom to solve their specific problems. Consequently, teams building microservices can pick the best tool for each task. Microservices increase an application's availability. If a single component fails in a monolithic architecture, it can cause the entire application downtime. With a well-defined microservices architecture, applications tolerate a single component failure.
